AWS Launches Mac Instances 

Ever nuked a file with mv and thought it was gone forever? This guide shows how to replay the binary and bring it back from the dead. Moral of the story: backups aren’t optional.

UK Company used XSS vulnerability as company name

Very clever. The UK company register recently started accepting special characters in company names. The company in question tested the new naming policy by naming their company an XSS (Cross-Site Scripting) attack. So every time someone clicked the link of their company name, it would execute a script. Luckily, in this case, it was non-malicious, but it goes to show how easy it is to trick people.

Cool new project - opstrace, like Datadog but Open Source

This project popped up across my timeline several times today, so I finally dug into it. Opstrace is a monitoring suite. A great feature is that opstrace makes it easy to deploy in your cloud account. Also, data never leaves your network and remains private. The team just launched it, so check it out.

Microsoft walks back privacy feature "Productivity Score"

This Tweet unleashed a full-on assault on the O365 team. O365 makes some dashboards available to see the adoption rate of the various O365 services. However, if you put your critical glasses on, it is clear that these features could be used to spy on employee productivity. Microsoft evaluated the feedback and provided an amazing, fast turnaround for reworking how the tool will work going forward. Instead of providing per-employee metrics, it will provide only organization metrics going forward. Well done, Microsoft!
